Jennifer Hudson

Spotlight

Jennifer Hudson's achieved so much in career before releasing her debut album. Her new single 'Spotlight' is out now, check out the video.

After failing to win American Idol, she was chosen to play the role of Effie White in the movie Dreamgirls, a role which won her an Academy Award. She also went on to play Carrie Bradshaw's assistant, Louise in the Sex And The City movie.

Tracks from both movies are featured on her self-titled debut album - And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going, her show-stopping number from Dreamgirls still gives us goosebumps, while All Dressed In Love is a feel-good anthem which reminds of just how good Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte's first big screening outing was.

With a voice as powerful as hers, it's on the slower and mid-tempo tracks on which she shines. Lead single from the album, Spotlight is a prime example of this, perfectly conveying the message behind the song with a rare sincerity. Her duet with Fantasia Barrino, the singer who beat her to the American Idol crown, sees the pair trade blows with real attitude.

Her duet with T-Pain is the album's only low moment, with his heavily auto-tuned vocals becoming quite grating after a while but all in all it's an impressive debut and only looks to send her star soaring higher.
