SEB: Goddess of Pop

Sophie Ellis Bextor

Sophie Ellis-Bextor is a goddess of pop music, and if you didn't buy her briliant 3rd album 'Trip the Light Fantastic' then you missed out on one of the best pop albums of 2007. After the terrible choice of 'Today The Sun's On Us' as the 3rd single, everyone seemed to lose interest, but we urge you to check it out at least for the gigantic disco of 'China Heart' , the Feeling-reggae bop of 'Only One' and the full on wig-out of 'Supersonic'

Now after shelving a Greatest Hits project, Sophie is planning her 4th album and has put two of it's songs on her myspace page. We love them so just had to send you along. First there's 'On and Off' which Sophie claims might be the first single. Written by pop guru Cathy Dennis and the lovely Calvin Harris , it was originally recorded by Roisin Murphy but after she turned it down, it came Sophie's way.

Our real love is the 2nd track, the elaborately named 'Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer' . It's got the same disco vibe as 'Trip The Light Fantasic' but has more of a pulsating, urgent feel to it, probably thanks to The Freemasons who are all over this song on production duties. Kylie Minogue eat your heart out.

Listen to the songs on Sophie's myspace .
