Ravin' about Raven
Marion Raven used to be in a teen-pop group with a friend that sold loads of records in Norway. Then she went solo and Meat Loaf took her under his wing. We went down to watch the pair in concert last weekend..
Dressed all in form-fitting black, tonight Marion certainly looks the part of sexy rock chick, although a cute coffee mug on the stool next to her betrays a more homely side.
She thanks Meat Loaf for having let her steal his shaggy-haired guitarist Randy Flowers to join her on guitar, letting her focus more on the vocals. And she can certainly belt it out, her Norway-via-California accent and occasionally snarling delivery nicely contrasting with the soaring big notes.
Stripped of the expensive pop-rock production we guess she normally has, it reveals what a skilful and grown-up set of songs these are, especially for one so young (she is 23 today, and later the whole of Wembley will sing Happy Birthday to her). Drawing on her own experiences of a difficult relationship, her songs are as personal as they are universal. "Most of my album is about my ex-boyfriend," she explains with a sigh, introducing 'Crawl'. "He was a bad boy."
Moving from guitar to electric piano with ease, her gentler numbers show she is in the great tradition of female rock singer-songwriters, but she can still easily pack the punch of a Kelly Clarkson when she gets up and struts around the stage. As she launches into toe-tapping current single "Break You" she even has admirable success getting the seated Wembley crowd to join her in 'We Will Rock You'-style hand-claps.

I was at the Wembley Show too, got there a bit early as was expecting a load of queues, anyway I'm glad I did - Marion was amazing! What a find! During that last song, she had the hairs up on the back of my neck - what a voice, and phoar, she's lush too! Result!

I also saw Marion at the Meat Loaf concert, although in sheffield. My friends and I at the concert area all in agreement, she was awesome. (As was Meat Loaf, it was an awesome concert). I'm just hoping there's some acoustic guitar stuff on her up coming album... which is now on pre-order from Amazon. All in all good stuff, definately worth checking out if you haven't already.

Shes a great singer and an awesome person who looks out for her fans as individuals a lot of singers take fans for granted. She sets the bar higher in every way.

I heard about on trip to Norway a couple years of ago when she was guest judge on there version on Pop Idol. I then heard "Break You" and loved from the start. So pleased she getting more exposure and hope she has tour dates in UK again as love to see live.

I'm a huge Marion Raven fan in Malaysia and I truly hope that she'll come to Kuala Lumpur again. I also hope that she'll do a collaboration with Germany's most successful rock band, Scorpions.
